Show Up, Show Off, Show Around: Significado y Ejemplos
Los tres tienen que ver con hacerse visible, pero con actitudes muy distintas: aparecer sin más, presumir y enseñar un sitio a alguien. El tono de cada uno es muy diferente.
Show up es de los phrasal verbs más frecuentes del inglés hablado y a menudo lleva una crítica implícita: se usa cuando alguien llega tarde, o cuando no se sabía si vendría.
SHOW UP
Significado: Aparecer, llegar

Sinónimo de turn up: los dos significan presentarse, y en el Reino Unido turn up es algo más común. Ninguno lleva objeto directo.
SHOW OFF
Significado: Presumir, hacer alarde

Sustantivo con carga: llamar a alguien a show-off es un insulto suave, equivalente a «fantasma» o «presumido». El verbo puede ir con objeto o sin él.
SHOW AROUND
Significado: Mostrar el lugar, hacer una visita guiada

Separable con persona: se dice show someone around, con la persona en medio. En el Reino Unido también se oye show someone round.
Separabilidad: ¿dónde va el objeto?
Es lo que más se falla con los phrasal verbs. Un verbo separable admite el objeto en medio, y si el objeto es un pronombre (it, him, them…) tiene que ir en medio obligatoriamente. Uno inseparable no se puede partir nunca.

- Show up es el aparecer del día a día; appear suena formal o literario.
- Show off como sustantivo describe a la persona: He’s such a show-off (es un fantasma).
- Show around se usa con lugares: la ciudad, la oficina, la casa. Con un sitio concreto, show you the kitchen.
